Once I moved to Africa for love. That didn't last long, the love for Africa however remained. For almost 15 years I escaped every dreary dark Dutch winter and spend at least three months in sunny splendour in West Africa. I made some good friends, had great times and miserable ones -I often felt like I was in an emotional rollercoaster. Life was certainly interesting! And I always enjoyed hunting for treasures, working with local artisans and having time without distractions for my own shibori work. Due to the current situation in Mali and Burkina Faso I no longer feel free to go. I do however still import indigo textiles, and continue to make one-of-a-kind clothing and accesories. Most of these vintage indigo pieces have been used and therefor no longer have a big environmental impact. All are handwoven, most have been handspun. I create everything with respect for these beautiful textiles. All are loose-fit. Enjoy them as they come, adept or alter them according to your wishes, repare in due time, reuse and recycle. I love the current trend of visible mending. After I had worn a kimonoponcho for a few years and it started to develop holes and fraying, inspired by boro I upcycled the piece and it will now be with me for the rest of my life -see the pics. Enjoy!
